How ranking works

Ranked by TGP

The leaderboard ranks students by TGP (Total Grade Points): the grade points from every course you've passed, added up. GPA alone isn't fair: a first-year with one course at 4.0 ties a final-year with a whole degree at 4.0. TGP reflects both your grades and the work behind them. More in Total Grade Points, and where to find yours in Find your TGP on SRMS.

Switching to GPA

Use Rank by GPA above the leaderboard to rank by overall GPA instead. Your choice is part of the page's link, so you can share a GPA view.

Ties

  • By TGP: a higher TGP ranks first. With the same TGP, the higher GPA ranks first; with the same TGP and GPA, the more senior student (earlier start year) ranks first.
  • By GPA: a higher GPA ranks first; with the same GPA, the more senior student ranks first.

Students who are equal on everything share a rank.

Results for one academic year

Choose a year (for example 2025/2026 results) above the leaderboard to rank students by their GPA for that year only. TGP covers your whole degree, so year views always use that year's GPA. Add your GPA for each year from Update GPA / TGP to appear in those views.

Filters

Filters change the list you see: year group (current students by default), department, and Verified only, which shows only results checked against a grade document (see Verification). Filters are part of the page's link, so you can share a filtered view. On a phone, they're under Filters.

Your ranks

Your profile shows three ranks: across everyone, in your year group, and in your department. Leaderboard filters don't change them. To compare yourself with students at your stage, look at your year-group rank.

If you turn on email notifications in Settings, we email you when your rank goes up or down (checked every 15 minutes).

No GPA or TGP yet?

  • No GPA: you're not on the leaderboard. Add it from Update GPA / TGP.
  • GPA but no TGP: you're listed at the end, without a rank. Add your TGP and your rank appears straight away.
