Messages

The Inbox is for one-to-one messages between RankUoG accounts.

Who can message you​

  • Anyone signed in can start a conversation with a student who has a public profile.
  • Private accounts, alumni, staff and employers can't be messaged out of the blue, but can reply once someone they wrote to answers.

Requests​

A message from someone you don't follow arrives as a request. Accept it, or just reply, to move it to your Inbox; decline it to delete it. Until you answer, they can send at most three messages.

Blocking and reporting​

From a conversation's ⋯ menu:

  • Block stops someone messaging you. They aren't told; they just can't reach you.
  • Report sends the conversation to the RankUoG team.

Who can read your messages​

Only you and the other person can see a conversation in the app. Messages are encrypted on their way to our servers and on our provider's disks, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. RankUoG admins open a conversation only after one of you reports it, and every time they do is logged.

We email you about unread messages at most once an hour (never the message text). You can turn this off in Settings.
